Why Choose Us
What You Gain
from Learning Here
Teratai Hikmah is not the only place to learn about personal finance. But it is a particular kind of place — and the particulars matter.

Six Reasons People Choose Teratai Hikmah
Genuinely Small Groups
Ten to twelve participants per group. Not a policy stated then ignored — a strict ceiling we have maintained from the start.
Malaysian Materials, Only
Every document used in our programmes — fund factsheets, EPF statements, prospectuses — is drawn from the Malaysian market. You learn with what you actually hold.
No Products, No Commission
We are paid by programme fee alone. There is no financial arrangement with any fund house, insurance company or bank. Our educators have no incentive to steer you toward any product.
Paced for Working Lives
Sessions are designed for people with full commitments outside the classroom. Programmes do not require long preparation or intensive study between meetings.
Exercises You Actually Do
Short, practical writing exercises between sessions ask you to apply what you have learned to your own situation. The learning does not remain abstract.
A Conversation Before Committing
We speak with all prospective participants before confirming a place. We want to be certain the programme is right for where you are — and you should want the same.
In Depth
What Each Benefit Means in Practice
Practitioner Knowledge
Our educators have worked inside Malaysia's financial services industry — in retail banking, EPF-adjacent consultation, and adult curriculum design. This is not academic knowledge applied from outside. It is practical familiarity with the documents and systems Malaysians actually use.
- Educators with backgrounds in Malaysian banking and EPF consultation
- Materials reviewed for alignment with current SC and BNM frameworks
- Curriculum updated when local regulations or products change
A Structured, Unhurried Method
Each programme follows a careful sequence: concepts are introduced before documents, documents before exercises, and exercises before reflection. We do not front-load information. We build it progressively, because adults retain what they encounter at a manageable rate.
- Session plans tested and refined over multiple cohorts
- Written exercises designed to connect learning to personal documents
- Clear session summaries sent after each meeting
Direct, Attentive Support
Questions that arise between sessions are welcomed. We reply to participant enquiries within one working day. The Retirement Engagement programme includes direct access to the programme lead throughout the six-month period.
- Replies within one working day
- Retirement Engagement participants have continuous access to their programme lead
- Pre-enrolment conversation with no obligation to proceed
Transparent, Stated Fees
Programme fees are fixed, stated clearly before any enrolment is confirmed, and cover all materials and sessions included in the programme description. There are no add-ons, no optional upgrades, and nothing required beyond what has been agreed.
- RM 620 for Garden Walk · RM 1,490 for Fund Factsheet · RM 2,810 for Retirement Engagement
- All materials included in programme fee
- Withdrawal terms set out in writing before payment
Skills That Hold
Our measure of success is simple: can participants read and interpret their own financial documents more clearly after the programme than before? The writing exercises, the use of real documents, and the pacing of sessions are all designed to make that outcome more likely.
- Learning anchored to participants' own documents and situations
- Written closing summaries for the Retirement Engagement programme
- Participants regularly re-read programme materials months later

What We Do Differently
Distinctive Features
The Writing Exercise Model
Between sessions, participants complete a short, structured writing exercise relating to their own financial documents. This is not routine homework — it is a method of making learning personal and durable. We believe this is the most important thing we do that others do not.
Reading the Small Print, Together
The Fund Factsheet course spends time on the sections of financial documents most people skip — cost ratios, past performance disclaimers, subscription conditions. We read these carefully, in class, with participants who have the same documents in front of them.
EPF as a Starting Point
Our programmes treat EPF as the natural anchor for financial understanding among Malaysians in their forties. Rather than introducing abstract concepts, we begin from something participants already hold — their EPF statement — and build outward from there.
Written Closing Summary
The Retirement Engagement programme concludes with a written summary covering all areas reviewed during the six months: EPF strategy, insurance, healthcare cost provisioning, and income sequencing. This document belongs to the participant and is intended as a long-term reference.
