What Participants Have Said
I had been looking at my EPF statement for years without really understanding what I was seeing. After the first session in the Garden Walk, I went home and read my statement properly for the first time. That alone was worth the three weeks.

The factsheet course changed the way I approach anything related to unit trusts. I now read documents I used to sign without looking at. The cost ratio section alone changed how I think about two funds I already held.

I was sceptical that a six-month programme would hold my attention. It did. The monthly sessions gave me something concrete to think about between meetings. By the end I had a written summary that I have already returned to several times.

I was not sure I was in the right group at first — I thought I might already know too much. But the writing exercises were different from anything I had done before. Sitting with my own documents forced me to be honest about a few things I had been putting off.

I have attended other financial talks before but they always ended with someone trying to sell something. This course had none of that. The educator was straightforward, the pace was sensible, and the documents were real ones — not simplified versions.

The healthcare cost section of the Retirement Engagement surprised me most. I had never thought through what twenty-five years of healthcare expenses might actually look like. We worked through it carefully. I am still thinking about it.

Three Accounts in Detail
Norzahra Abdul Rahim, 46
School administrator · Cheras · Garden Walk, February 2025
Challenge
Had not reviewed her finances in four years. EPF statement filed away unread. Two unit trust holdings she had forgotten the details of. A vague sense that things needed sorting but no clear starting point.
What Changed
The Garden Walk's first session gave her a structure for reviewing cash flow and named debts. The writing exercise between sessions one and two was the first time she had written down all her monthly commitments in one place.
After the Programme
She located her two unit trust accounts, re-read her EPF statement with the notes from the session, and identified one insurance policy she had been paying for six years that had lapsed without her realising it.
Mohd Farizal Ismail, 51
Logistics manager · Klang · Fund Factsheet Course, March 2025
Challenge
Held four unit trust funds over fifteen years without ever having read a factsheet in full. Felt uncertain about the difference between management fee and total expense ratio, and whether his funds were performing as described to him.
What Changed
The six-week course went through each part of a factsheet systematically. By week three he was able to identify cost components in factsheets for each of his four funds and compare them directly.
After the Programme
He requested updated factsheets for all four funds, read them himself, and decided to move one holding to a lower-cost fund. He made the decision entirely on his own, informed by what he had learned.
Grace Selvam, 57
Medical technician · Puchong · Retirement Engagement, Oct 2024–Mar 2025
Challenge
Eight years from planned retirement with no clear sense of what her income would look like, whether her EPF would be sufficient, or how to think about twenty or more years of healthcare costs with a chronic condition.
What Changed
The six-month programme moved through each area carefully. The midway review was particularly useful — it gave her a written record of the first three months' work and a clear list of what remained to cover.
After the Programme
She has the written closing summary and refers to it quarterly. She described it as the first time she had seen her retirement in full rather than as a series of separate concerns.
